The Magic Bus radio show

The Magic Bus is a monthly radio show heard live every 4th Saturday night from 10 to Midnight on public radio station KZYX.

The Cat ‘n A Hat will take you on a journey thru the Highways, Biways, Dirt roads and Back alleys of rock, progressive rock and oddities. Streaming live at kzyx.org.

The purpose of this show is to turn people on to stuff they may not have heard. Sure, there are plenty of known hits, but also B-sides, lesser-known tracks and lesser-known artists. You’ll never really know where the bus is going, from rock to hip hop to classical, jazz, R&B, country, film music, spoken word and more. With plenty of oddities.

I love when people discover new bands or music from riding the bus. If some one hears something they wouldn’t have even tried before, gets the value of that genre, and maybe even start supporting a new artist from the very young to very old based on what they heard here.

My criteria for most of the music I love consists of at least one of these three elements:

Have something to say. An artist that uses lyrics or performance make a statement about life, politics, society, nature or anything that causes the listener to think.

Be technically meticulous. The masters of their amazing craft. Tight bands that make clean notes and great transitions. Artists who take a chance yet still make sure they are implementing their high-end skills to perfect their new experiences.

Finally, passion. If an artist can express a passion for music, fun, love jammin’ then you get sucked into the emotion of the moment and the details of the music fade to the experiences you’re having. It is the music of now.

For me Pete Townshend and The Who (among many others) accomplish all the above and as you might guess from the show title you can expect a fair share of both Pete’s solo work and The Who, but not so much as to warp the show (I hope).

Most of all it’s 2 hours of music to have in the background or under the headphones and earbuds and trip to. It’s meant to be fun with an occasional rant from the Cat when humans act like jerks.

Please subscribe and more importantly contact me and tell me what you think of the show and enjoy.
